Are you wearing your name tags and lapel pins correctly?
There are numerous theories about where a name tag should be placed on a shirt or jacket. Have you ever heard the theory that the name tag should be put on the right side since you shake with your right hand and your name is in direct line of sight? What about the notion that says you should wear your name tag on the left side because you shake with your right hand and your name tag tends to get covered up as you shake? The origins of these beliefs are usually traced back to arguments and discussions among conference attendees who were trying to figure out where to put their name tags.
After recently attempting to explain one of these theories to a group of conference participants, I decided it was finally time to figure out where the name tag should go.
When it comes to name tags and lapel pins, there appears to be a right and wrong side.
1. NAME TAGS: The Name Badges in Australia should be worn on the right side of your shirt, blouse, or blazer, above the pocket in the United States.
As previously stated, the most important thing to remember is that you want the individuals you’re meeting to be able to make direct eye contact with you and see your name clearly as you shake hands.
2. LAPEL PINS: A lapel pin should be worn on the left side of the garment, near the heart. Wearing an American flag pin is prohibited by Section 8(J) of the United States Flag Code, which states: “The flag is considered a living thing since it represents a live country. As a result, the replica lapel flag pin should be worn close to the heart on the left lapel.”
However, keep in mind that some groups have specific restrictions concerning when and when to wear a pin, which may conflict with the preceding statement. However, because most people wear pins that represent something meaningful to them, they usually wear them on the left side, near the heart.
The trick is to remember that all of these regulations come with one major exception: wear your name tag and pin it in the most convenient spot!
If you’re going to a meeting where etiquette is crucial, you should probably follow the guidelines. However, if you’re wearing an attire that causes your name tag to turn over when you shake hands, it’s best to wear it on the left. When it comes to name tags, the aim is to persuade people to remember your name, which they won’t be able to accomplish if your Name Badges in Australia is flipped over!
